SIU investigating serious injuries to a woman in Port Elgin

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking into the circumstances surrounding a collision in Port Elgin.

According to the SIU,  a Saugeen Shores Police Service officer attempted to stop the driver of a vehicle near Bricker Street and Maple Drive at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Christmas day.

The agency said that preliminary information suggests that the driver crashed into a residence on Bricker Street.

A 45-year-old female passenger was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the collision.

The Saugeen Shores Police Service (SSPS) said, in a release, that an occupant of the residence also sustained minor injuries.

A 46-year-old man is facing several charges including flight from the police.

The SSPS said that the man was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.
