West Grey pull suspect from the Saugeen River

West Grey Police have charged a man with assault after officers responded to a 911 call for service in Ayton on Sunday January 2, 2022. OPP allege a female had been assaulted during a domestic dispute. The suspect fled the scene on police arrival.

Officers tracked a suspect to the shoreline of the South Saugeen river and located a male who had fallen into the icy waters. The man was transported to Durham hospital for treatment of hypothermia. Once released from hospital, the suspect was transported to West Grey Police HQ where he was processed and later released.

A 20-year old man has an appearance set for the Ontario Court of Justice, Walkerton in February to face charges of assault and mischief.
