No Nuclear Waste group plans to rally at South Bruce Council meeting

A South Bruce group, Protect our Waterways - no Nuclear Waste, is hosting a rally Tuesday night, as the group presents a petition to council in regards to the proposed Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for used nuclear fuel which could be built in South Bruce.

The group's chair says they have permission to hold a rally from the OPP, as long as participants remain in their vehicle. Michelle Stein says people can park around 5:30 pm at the Council Chambers, where they will broadcast the petition presentation.

The group is requesting a referendum on the issue as part of the 2022 municipal election. The group says over 1,000 people have signed the petition.

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization has narrowed down its options for a DGR site to South Bruce or Ignace.
