Barn fire ravages local livestock barn

A barn fire just north of Mitchell caused significant damage, but is not deemed suspicious.

On January 18th just after 7 p.m., the West Perth Fire Department in Mitchell responded to a call of a barn fire on Line 42. The barn was fully engulfed when crews arrived. West Perth Fire Chief Bill Hunter confirmed that mutual aid came from Monkton, Atwood, Listowel, Milverton, Sebringville and Seaforth stations. Perth County OPP, EMS and Public Works assisted firefighters at the scene, as well. Crews cleared the site at 1 a.m. the following morning. No one was injured, however somewhere between 24 and 30 pigs were lost, with total damages around $800,000.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, but it is not being deemed suspicious.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
