County has apartment plan from North Huron

An amendment to an apartment building plan in North Huron has gone to the county level.

And North Huron CAO Dwayne Evans says the initial proposal for a five storey building is now three.

That building is proposed to be built on the former grounds of the Wingham trailer park.

"The purchaser was hoping to start construction this spring, but clearly the community has expressed some concerns and council has listened to those concerns and subsequently, council has limited the height of the apartment building to three stories," said Evans.

The official plan amendment to change the designation for the property to residential has gone to the county and when that's passed, the zoning bylaw to allow the apartment building will come back to North Huron council for approval.

If the amendment to the permit passes, then there will be a 20-day appeal period.

The situation will also depend on whether the potential purchasers can accept a three-storey limit.
