Huron Perth Public Health says the number of new COVID-19 infections, hospitalizations, and outbreaks continues to decline.
In a release today, HPPH states that since a return to in-person learning on January 17th and the lifting of some restrictions on January 31st and February 17th, there has been no significant rebound in cases.
The province is expected to lift more restrictions on March 1st including proof of vaccination for some indoor settings. Masking and screening are expected to remain in place.
Despite the trend, health officials say that COVID-19 is still circulating in the region.
HPPH is urging continued caution including staying home when sick, as well as measures such as washing hands frequently and ensuring ventilation of indoor spaces.
And there continues to be a higher risk for older populations, those with underlying health conditions, and those who are unvaccinated.
“The actions that have been taken over the past two years to control COVID-19, and most recently the Omicron wave, have been effective at saving lives, slowing virus transmission, preventing more outbreaks from occurring, and maintaining hospital capacity,” says Dr. Miriam Klassen, Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth. “We also know that the public health measures have had adverse mental health, social, and economic impacts. I appreciate the sacrifices that people have made during this very challenging time.”
As of February 21st, HPPH and partners have administered 292,181 vaccine doses in Huron Perth and 84 percent of residents aged five and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Nearly 81 percent are fully vaccinated.
