Volunteer week, empathy in action

It's National Volunteer Week.

The theme this week is 'Volunteering is Empathy in Action'.

The United Way Perth-Huron says it has 600-plus volunteers that bring a commitment and passion to the organization and is recognizing several people with Volunteer Spirit awards.

But UWPH officials say they're not alone in having incredible supporters, as volunteers are the heartbeat of local non-profits and they acknowledge the work of everyone who gives their time and energy to organizations.

The Volunteer Spirit award winners for the United Way Perth-Huron are:

Darren Boyle Marian deWever Pam Hanington Barbara Kane Geoff Love Kate Procter Kim Richardson Kim Ross Jones JoAnn Todd Kayla Vandenberg Kathy Vassilakos Paul Williams
