Huron-Bruce MPP, Lisa Thompson, was in Huron-Kinloss to present the historic Point Clark Lighthouse an Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) Resilient Communities Fund grant worth $117,100.
The investment is intended for the national landmark’s museum, to help transform the visitor experience in time for the 2023 tourism season.
"Supporting an initiative that both honours heritage while making it more engaging for those visiting this spectacular National Historic Site is the ideal purpose for Ontario Trillium Foundation funding," Thompson said.
Last year, the OTF invested nearly $112 million into 1,384 community projects around the province and has focused on helping non-profit organizations rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19.
The Point Clark Lighthouse has been closed since 2020 because of the on-going pandemic. The building was built between 1855-1859 and has been an integral part of the community since.
"The Point Clark Lighthouse is the crown jewel of historical tourism in the Township of Huron-Kinloss and a keystone in drawing visitors to Bruce County," said Huron-Kinloss Mayor, Mitch Twolan.
"There’s a rich history anchored in the Lighthouse, its museum, and the Lake Huron shoreline," The Township's Business and Economic Officer, Amy Irwin added. "We’re really looking forward to sharing it."
