Decision on school boundaries in North Perth deferred

Trustees with the Avon Maitland District School Board have decided to defer a decision on boundary adjustments in North Perth.

Superintendent of Corporate Services, Cheri Carter, says after hearing the consultants report they wanted to know what the implications would be of deferring a decision.

Carter points out Listowel Eastdale is a real pressure point right now for them, as they're already over capacity.

Carter says there is also an option that involves delaying movement of students from North Perth Westfield to the high school in Listowel.

But she adds that does have implications.

“The growth in the area is so much that we'd have to something again in the next four to six years. There'll be a lot of portables required at North Perth Westfield, we're estimating up to eight portables, by 2028, or so it's significant, but it does buy some more time,” explained Carter.

Carter says a decision on how to proceed has been deferred until the Avon Maitland Board's June board meeting.
