OPP lay charges after teen hit by car near Mount Forest

Charges have been laid against an elderly man after a teenage cyclist was struck by a vehicle east of Mount Forest late last month.

On May 31 at around 8:20 p.m., emergency crews and Ontario Provincial Police in Wellington County responded to a report of a crash involving a youth on a bicycle on Highway 89 in Southgate Township. A 15-year-old was located on scene and taken to hospital by paramedics with serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle involved did not remain at the scene of the crash.

OPP officers then launched an investigation asking for assistance in locating the suspect vehicle described as an older silver sedan with damage to the passenger side.

On Thursday, police identified the suspect as an 85-year-old Kitchener man. He is charged with failing to stop at an accident resulting in bodily harm.

He is scheduled to make a court appearance in Guelph at a later date.
