Axe-wielding man arrested in Owen Sound

A Bruce County man was arrested by the Owen Sound Police Service (OSPS) shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday.

Police said that a concerned citizen called 9-1-1 and reported seeing a man damaging property with an axe on 2nd Avenue West.

When police arrived they said they saw the man exiting a property carrying the weapon. Following negotiations, the 45-year-old surrendered the axe and was arrested without incident.

OSPS determined that the man had used the the axe to break out the window of a car parked on the property and damage some fencing.

The man faces several charges including possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of mischief.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
