Wellington Country OPP identify swimmer after a body was recovered from Guelph Lake

Wellington County OPP have now identified a swimmer who's body was pulled from Guelph Lake on the weekend.

On July 31, 2022, at 6:15 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a swimmer in distress near the island in Guelph Lake at the Guelph Lake Conservation Area.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., the swimmer was located and was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased.

The deceased has been identified as Hilal Ahmad Najeebi, 14-years-old,  of Mississauga.

This is the second drowning in Guelph lake in two weeks. The body of a 21-year old was recovered from the lake just over two weeks ago after being seen in distress around nine metres from the shore.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
