Huron County has announced an additional fifty-thousand dollars for specific Clean Water projects in the county.
Maitland Valley Conservation Authority Stewardship Project Lead, Ben Van Dieten, says that brings the county's total annual contribution to Clean Water Improvement projects to half a million dollars. “Along with that, there's been a few category grant increases. We've upped the grant for a few categories just to cost share those total costs for certain projects.”
“Fragile Land Retirement, which is basically tree planting projects, has increased to five-thousand dollars. So the county will pay fifty per cent of the project cost, up to five-thousand dollars.”
He says funding to the Forest Management Plan category, which will offset the cost of hiring a licensed forester, who comes into a bush lot and creates a plan for sustainable, long term harvesting.
Van Dieten says, over the years, Huron County has emerged as a leader in the Province in supporting Clean Water Improvement projects. “Since 2005, It's been almost four-million dollars in grants paid out by the county. And that equals about 14-million dollars in total project value.”
Van Dieten says that says a lot about the commitment of the county and the commitment of Huron County landowners. The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority and the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority deliver the Huron Clean Water Project program on behalf of the County.
