Perth County OPP were called the scene of a two vehicle collision on Line 91 west of Perth Road 140, east of Palmerston around 11:45 a.m.
A passenger vehicle had collided with a commercial vehicle.
The driver of the passenger vehicle, John Cherry, 87, of Palmerston, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one else was hurt.
The area remained closed for much of the afternoon while police investigated.
People in southern Huron and Lambton counties are being told to limit their time outside.
