More emergency department closures hitting local hospitals

Once again, local Midwestern Ontario Emergency Departments are being forced to close due to staffing shortages.

The South Bruce Grey Health Centre was forced to close the Durham Hospital Emergency Department on August 24th at 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. on the 25th. Regular hours will resume in Durham following that 12-hour closure. Additionally, the Chesley Hospital Emergency Department will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 27th and re-open Sunday the 28th at 7 a.m. It will close again on Monday the 29th at 5 p.m. again, resuming regular operating hours at 7 a.m. on the 30th.

The South Bruce Grey Health Centre says the closures are "due to a number of short notice sick leaves, resulting in a significant shortage of both RNs and RPNs."
