Local emergency department forced to close ED overnight

The South Bruce Grey Health Centre has to close another local emergency department due to staffing issues.

The Walkerton Emergency Department will close tonight (August 29th) at 5 p.m., not 8 p.m. as originally stated by SBGHC, and it will reopen on Tuesday, August 30th at 7 a.m. At that time the ED in Walkerton will resume regular hours. Once again, the SBGHC says this latest closure is due to ongoing staffing shortages that have blanketed the entire province with emergency department closures.

All healthcare organizations that have had to close EDs have cited COVID-19 as an exacerbating factor in the staffing shortages.
