Police cruiser damaged during traffic incident in Port Elgin

A police cruiser suffered damage during a traffic stop in Port Elgin over the weekend.

Saugeen Shores Police say officers stopped a vehicle on Goderich Street at 8:10 p.m. on Saturday.

According to police, the driver parked their car and got out to speak with officers, but as this was happening, a passenger slid into the driver's seat of the stopped vehicle and allegedly reversed into the parked police cruiser before taking off.

Police did not pursue due to a risk to public safety.

Saugeen Shores Police say they have identified the person responsible and are seeking a warrant for one man's arrest on several charges, including assault with a weapon and flight from police.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
