Wellington OPP welcome new Detachment Commander

A new Detachment Commander is running the show for Wellington County OPP.

In a release, the Wellington County OPP officially welcomed Inspector Steve Thomas as their new Detachment Commander. Inspector Thomas has been an OPP officer for 17 years, with the majority of his career spent in Wellington County. He worked as a breath technician, scenes of crime officer and coach officer while working frontline patrol before serving as a Detective Constable in the Community Street Crime Unit. He then served as a frontline supervisor and detachment operations manager.

Inspector Thomas was also briefly the Interim Detachment Commander at the Queen's Park Detachment and most recently served as the Interim Detachment Commander in Wellington County starting in January of this year.

"Wellington County is and always will feel like home, and I am honoured to be able to continue to work alongside the dedicated and professional officers that make up the Wellington County OPP. I look forward to continuing to collaborate with our community partners and stakeholders to promote the safety and wellbeing of all who live, work, play or visit here," says Inspector Thomas.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
