Owen Sound seeks input into Climate Action Strategy

The City of Owen Sound has launched the second phase of its Climate Action Strategy’s community engagement efforts online.

The City of Owen Sound’s Strategic Plan Refresh in 2021 identified the need to consider the effects climate change may have on its services.

A media release said Owen Sound is developing a Climate Action Strategy to include mitigation and adaptation efforts, while aligning with the Grey County climate action plan.

The City's Climate Mitigation Plan will include creating a baseline inventory and forecast of energy use and emissions by January 2023. It will set emissions reduction targets for community and corporate greenhouse gas emissions by February 2023, and develop a local action plan by April 2023.

The City has already joined the Partners for Climate Protection program to network with 500 other Canadian municipalities on action against climate change and reducing local greenhouse gas emissions.

Community engagement and updates regarding the formatting of the Climate Action Strategy’s mitigation plan can be found at the City’s online engagement platform at OurCity.OwenSound.ca.
