Emergency department in Chesley temporarily closed for several days

South Bruce Grey Health Centre officials said its emergency department in Chesley will be closed until next week due to a nursing shortage.

In a release sent out Wednesday evening, SBGHC said the hospital  closed at 5 p.m. and it will remain shuttered until 7 a.m. Monday.

"All efforts to find staffing for the emergency department have been undertaken without success," a release from SBGHC read.

Hospital officials say ambulance by-pass will be undertaken to divert patients to the nearest open emergency room. Anyone in need of immediate medical attention should still call 911. F

Anyone requiring immediate medical attention should call 911 to be taken to the nearest Emergency Department. Those experiencing  non-urgent health care needs are advised to call Health Connect Ontario at 811 for 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions.

Otherwise, patients can choose to travel to the next closest emergency department which are as follows:

• Hanover (19km)

• Walkerton (26km)

• Durham (36km)

• Southampton (42km)

• Markdale (44km)

• Owen Sound (46km)

• Kincardine (60km)

• Mount Forest (60km)

• Palmerston (60km)
