Police lay charges against one person following deadly livestock trailer fire

A Norwich resident is facing a list of charges following a deadly livestock trailer fire.

Perth County OPP were called at 10:46 p.m. on October 3rd to respond to a reported livestock trailer engulfed in flames travelling on Perth Road 107 in the Township of Perth East.

The trailer was reportedly hauling 69 cows. Two suffered severe burn wounds and two were deceased. Police say 35 cows were freed from the trailer. As a result of the incident, a 41-year-old resident of Norwich is facing a long list of charges including causing damage or injury to animal or birds while being driven or conveyed, and operate unsafe vehicle.

The driver will appear in court at a later date.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
