Human trafficking investigation results in arrest and charges

The Owen Sound Police Service has made an arrest and laid charges following a human trafficking investigation.

Officers arrested a 43-year-old man on Monday, November 21 following an investigation that began when investigators were notified about a 15-year-old Owen Sound girl being exploited for sexual services.

"The investigation revealed that the male party had connected with the girl and misrepresented himself on Snapchat," police said in a statement released Wednesday. "The communications led to direct contact with the girl and a second young female during which it is alleged that sexual acts occurred on a number of occasions which are the substance of the criminal charges."

The suspect, whose name was not released, was held in custody and taken before the Owen Sound Court of Justice on Tuesday to answer to a lengthy list of sexual exploitation charges. The suspect's next scheduled court appearance is December 15.
