Avon Maitland District School Board to host more job fairs

A job fair hosted by the Avon Maitland District School Board in Listowel last month was so successful, the board will host four more in December in Huron County.

Recruitment and Retention Officer Hannah Carr says they're hoping to increase their casual supply pools to alleviate the day to day staffing challenges with things like illnesses as they head into the winter months.

“We also want to talk about job seekers experiences and how we can work to fill their employment needs too. So whether it's that flexible schedule they're looking for to supplement other employment or they're actually working towards a long term assignment to get that full time hours or permanent work with pension and benefits, we have opportunities for all of those," Carr said.

Specifically, Carr notes they're recruiting for support staff like educational assistants, early childhood educators, technical resource assistants, secretaries, and custodial staff. Carr also says they're urging people who see the job postings and don't feel they're qualified to come to one of the job fairs and talk with them.

“We do have emergency support staff opportunities and we also are partnering with the Centre for Employment and Learning staff, so we believe that together we can foster that support for the job seeker to fill the gap in our staffing challenges while also providing that professional development for future employees at Avon Maitland," added Carr.

The complete list and schedule of job fairs for next month is posted below and anyone looking for more information is invited to email Hannah Carr at hannah.carr@ed.amdsb.ca.
