Bruce County Libraries collect food instead of fines

Bruce County Library is using a novel method to support the food banks.

The library is accepting food donations instead of overdue fees until December 11, 2022.

The Food for Fines program allows people to donate a food item to replace $5 worth of library fines. And there is no maximum.

Bruce County launched the innovative program back in 2015. Last year they received 180 donations to local food banks, and $135 in fines were cleared.

"By removing the cap on how much in fines a patron can clear, our main goal is to get more donations to the food banks and help Bruce County residents this holiday season," said Library Director Brooke McLean.
