COVID-19 outbreak at Wingham hospital has ended

The COVID-19 outbreak at the Wingham and District Hospital has been declared over.

The outbreak was announced on November 21, and declared over by Huron Perth Public Health on November 30.

A total of six patients were identified as part of the outbreak, however no staff members tested positive for the virus.

"The Wingham and District Hospital staff and physicians are grateful for the patience shown by their patients and the community during this outbreak," the hospital said in a statement released Thursday.

The Listowel Wingham Healthcare Alliance noted that COVID-19 remains present throughout the area and residents are encouraged to stay home when ill, wear a mask, and wash their hands.

The emergency department visits, ambulatory care services, patient admissions, diagnostic imaging and specialist visits continue to occur.
