Residents in Grey and Bruce can learn more about a new project dubbed Regenerate Grey Bruce (RGB).
The project is funded by the Greenbelt Foundation, and aims to regenerate landscapes in the region to respond to the complex challenges of man and nature.
People can discuss ways the community can promote vibrant living landscapes, such as native plants, and biodiversity.
The organization believes natural landscapes will make the region more resilient to weather extremes. And they want to ensure there is room for local food production and wood products, while maintaining soil, habitat and natural beauty. That can include land conservation, habitat reconstruction, native plantings and public education.
Two community meetings are planned for Monday, December 5, 2022.
The 10 a.m. session will take place in-person and via Zoom at the Bluewater Outdoor Education Centre at 3092 Bruce Road 13 near Wiarton. The 7 p.m. time slot will take place via Zoom only.
"Regenerate Grey Bruce promotes a new narrative about how our community can strengthen our vibrant, living landscapes. Such landscapes regulate the water cycling and temperature of our local climate. They are also more resilient to weather extremes with an active soil sponge that can absorb and store significant rainfall, slowly releasing clean water to vegetation and groundwater, and sequestering carbon," according to a news release.
