Arson charge laid in Walkerton apartment fire

A Brockton man is now charged with arson in connection to an apartment fire in Walkerton.

Fire broke out at the apartment building on John Street on December 1, shortly after 1 p.m.

The Walkerton Fire Department and the Bruce County EMS responded to find the building fully engulfed. Emergency crews worked to get residents out of the building and later to find them temporary shelter. In a statement released yesterday, South Bruce OPP said thanks to those efforts there were no serious injuries.

The Office of the Fire Marshall, South Bruce OPP, the South Bruce OPP Crime Unit, and OPP Forensic Identification Unit investigated the fire and determined it had been deliberately set.

A 26-year-old from Brockton is now charged with arson, disregard for human life.
