A local medical facility has been nationally recognized for the quality of services it provides to stroke patients.
The Huron Perth District Stroke Centre at Stratford General Hospital was recently accredited with ‘Distinction in Stroke Services’ for 2022 - 2026. Organizations must be re-assessed for Stroke Distinction every four years.
This commendation comes after a surveyor from Accreditation Canada visited Stratford to evaluate the stroke centre’s services through conversations with its stakeholders, including staff, patients, families, and community partners.
Specifically, Huron Perth District Stroke Centre was applauded for its collaborative team dynamic, strong patient relationships, and “continuous quality improvement initiatives.”
“This recognition is a testament to the incredible team we are privileged to have working and volunteering as part of our District Stroke Centre… [We are] setting the bar for how integrated stroke care should be provided, “ said Andrew Williams, President & CEO of the Huron Perth District Stroke Centre.
Stroke Distinction is granted to organizations that demonstrate leadership and "clinical excellence" in stroke care. This honour, developed in partnership with the Heart & Stroke Foundation Canada, helps stroke patients and their families rest assured that they are receiving top-notch medical care.
In 2021, Huron Perth District Stroke Centre reported 448 patient visits to its Secondary Stroke Prevention Clinic. The team admitted 281 patients with stroke or transient ischemic attack to the acute stroke unit, with 89 of those patients needing rehabilitation.
