Man hurt while under arrest at Stratford transit terminal

Police in Stratford have called in the province's police watchdog after a man suffered a serious injury while under arrest last week.

According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Stratford police officers were called at around 8:30 p.m. February 1 to the Stratford Transit terminal located in Cooper Block regarding a man who was said to be causing a disturbance.

Police attempted to arrest the suspect and allege the man resisted being restrained by the officers. He was apprehended a short time later and was then taken to hospital for medical treatment. The SIU has not provided details into what kind of injury the man suffered.

Two investigators and a forensic investigator has been assigned to the case. One subject official and three witnesses have also been designated.

Anyone with information about the investigation, including video or photos, is asked to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or send information online to the SIU's website.

The SIU takes over any law-enforcement investigation if there is a chance an officer caused a serious injury, death, discharge of a firearm, or sexual assault.
