Police lay charges after investigation into series of arsons

A Meaford native is facing charges following an investigation into a recent string of alleged arsons.

Grey-Bruce OPP and the Major Crimes Unit have been investigating a series of fires that occurred in the Municipality of Meaford that began in 2021 and stretched into 2022. On February 3, after being satisfied with their investigation, police arrested and charged a 21-year-old from Meaford. The accused has been charged with nine counts of Arson-Damage to Property.

The accused was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound, where they were remanded into custody.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
