Two separate fires under investigation in Owen Sound

Owen Sound firefighters managed to bring fires in two different multi-family homes under control Tuesday evening.

According to the fire department, the homes did have smoke alarms.

The causes of both fires are under investigation with the assistance of the Ontario Fire Marshal's office. So far, the cause is undetermined.

Residents should always call 911 when they hear a smoke alarm, as any delay gives the fire a chance to grow.

Fire Prevention Officer Greg Nicol said damage adds up to between $20,000 and $40,000.

He reminds residents that smoke alarms are required to be located on every level of the home, and that families should practice their home escape plan.
