Huron County will discuss roundabout planned near Exeter

A roundabout at the intersection of County Road 83 and Airport Line west of Exeter will continue to be part of the 2023 budget discussions in Huron County.

County Engineer Steve Lund said the recommendation from staff was that the roundabout was the preferred option for the intersection. Lund says during their analysis, they found the intersection was operating at with a high level of traffic.

“There is a delay to traffic using Airport Line, especially in a.m. and p.m. peak periods, typically seven to nine, three to five. So that will help alleviate those concerns and any accidents associated with that” said Lund.

Lund added the county has done traffic counts on County Road 83 west of Exeter.

“We have found during weekends that the counts double. Typically we have a background count of about 5,000 average annual daily traffic that can actually peak up to 11,000 or 12,000 depending on the weather and the long weekend involved," he said

After some discussion, county council approved a motion to include the roundabout in the budget discussions scheduled for March 8.
