UPDATE: Power outages hit midwestern Ontario

Hundreds of people across the region were without power Wednesday afternoon thanks to severe thunderstorms.

Residents in Wingham have had their lights restored. Customers in Lucknow, Ripley, and Teeswater also have their lights back after crews worked into the late afternoon.

Only a handful of residents south of Paisley remain in the dark. The latest estimate from Hydro One has power being restored in that area at around 11 p.m.

Most customers in Paisley have had power restored after a major outage impacted over 1,000 people earlier in the day.
