Youth faces charges for misleading OPP

Wellington County OPP have charged a 16-year-old with public mischief after the youth allegedly misled police.

OPP responded to an address in Centre Wellington in early January after a youth reported receiving threatening messages on Instagram. They claimed the messages were coming from a person known to them.

After an extensive investigation spanning several months, police say they determined that the complainant had in fact sent the threatening messages to themselves.

The youth is now scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph at a later date to answer to charges.
