Emergency Preparedness Week begins in Bruce County

Starting today, Bruce County is asking residents to be ready for anything during their emergency preparedness week.

Running from May 7-13, the awareness campaign reminds residents and visitors that in the event of an emergency, they should be prepared to take care of themselves for a minimum of 72 hours before help arrives.

They say in the region, higher risk hazards include severe weather, floods, and power outages.

To prepare yourself for these events, they recommend making an emergency plan for your household. You should also have an emergency kit available, which should include basic items like food, water, and a battery-operated or crank flashlight.
