Weapons recovered by Saugeen Shores Police

A 29-year-old man from Saugeen Shores is facing over 30 weapons-related charges after being arrested by local police on Thursday.

Saugeen Shores Police attended a Port Elgin residence in the 700-block of Wellington Street on May 4 attempting to locate a male wanted on several warrants. While on the property, police say they could hear a male screaming from inside a residence that he was in possession of a firearm.

Officers say they were able to place the accused under arrest without incident and that a search resulted in the discovery of .45 and .22 calibre revolver style handguns, as well as bear spray and a knife.

More firearms, weapons and ammunition were seized after executing a search warrant at the residence.

The 29-year-old now faces 35 counts of weapons-related charges, including four counts of possession for a dangerous purpose, four counts of concealed carry and four counts of careless storage.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
