Charges laid following crash into local store front

Charges have been laid after a driver drove through the front of a local business.

Huron County OPP were called on May 13 at 3 p.m. after receiving a call about a crash at a local business on Mill Street in Clinton. Officers arrived alongside the Central Huron Fire Department to find that an SUV had crashed into the front of the business, causing significant damage to the entrance. Witnesses informed the police that the suspect driver drove off in the damaged SUV.

Police were able to locate the suspect driver and the vehicle a short time later, and officers determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol while driving. A 60-year-old Central Huron man is now facing numerous charges including Dangerous Operation and Operation While Impaired. The accused was also charged with three offences under the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for June 26 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
