Wingham ED to once again temporarily close

A local emergency department will once again experience a temporary closure.

The Listowel Wingham Hospital Alliance shared that the Wingham Emergency Department will be forced to close at 5 p.m. on May 18 due to ongoing staffing issues. The ED will re-open on May 19 at 7 a.m. Listowel Wingham Hospital Alliance stated that all efforts were undertaken to fill the shift with no success.

The Alliance also noted the Wingham Emergency Department will operate with reduced hours over the long weekend. It will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Once again, the nightly closures are the result of staffing shortages.

Ambulances will bypass the hospital and travel to the nearest open ER. Anyone experiencing a medical emergency should still call 9-1-1. The closest EDs to Wingham include:

-Listowel -Clinton -Goderich -Palmerston -Seaforth -Kincardine -Walkerton

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
