Through Engage Stratford, the City of Stratford is exploring lowering the 50 km/h posted speed limit in residential zones to 40 km/h.
One of the main issues the city has heard from locals is vehicle speed and pedestrian safety, and residents frequently ask for reduced speed restrictions.
There are two possibilities for lowering the speed limit. The first option is to lower the speed restriction in all residential parts of the city, and the second is to run a speed limit reduction pilot programme in a single neighbourhood.
Another choice is to remain in the same position. Provincial highways, the truck by-pass, and arterial roads would not have their speed limits reduced. Additionally, it wouldn't impact roads already posted at 40.
Paper copies of the survey will also be available at City Hall at the main floor reception desk and at the Clerk’s Office on the ground floor.
The survey results and comments will assist staff in preparing a report to City Council. Public input will be received until May 31, 2023.
