Wellington North resident dies in Hwy 6 collision

An 86-year-old from Wellington North Township has died after a collision north of Arthur on Saturday afternoon.

Around 2:30 p.m., emergency crews were called to a collision on Highway 6. The road was subsequently closed between Sideroad 8 and Sideroad 10.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash - a passenger vehicle, a pickup truck, and a sports utility vehicle (SUV), according to Wellington County OPP.

Police said the 86-year-old driver of the passenger vehicle was taken to hospital, and later pronounced dead. Three others were also transported to hospital, but police say their injuries were minor.

Highway 6 has since been reopened following an investigation by Wellington County OPP and the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
