Wingham ED to close yet again due to staffing issues

The Wingham Hospital Emergency Department will once again experience a temporary closure due to staffing issues.

The Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance says it will be closing the Wingham ED at 6 a.m. on Friday, June 2, and will re-open it on Saturday, June 3 at 8 a.m. At that time, 24/7 service will resume.

"This closure is a last resort and we deeply regret taking this action. Ambulances will bypass the hospitals and travel to the nearest open ER. All local health care providers will be informed of this closure," explained Karl Ellis, President and CEO of the Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance.

The closest emergency departments to Wingham include:

-Listowel -Clinton -Goderich -Palmerston -Seaforth -Kincardine -Walkerton
