Hanover man charged with impaired driving, fleeing the scene

Saugeen Shores Police have charged a Hanover man with impaired driving after damaging an electrical box in Port Elgin on Saturday.

Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision in the area of Ridge Street and Catherine Street around 5 p.m. A Dodge truck had driven off the roadway and collided with an electrical box, then the driver fled on foot.

The suspect was located several blocks north on Market Street near Shantz Street. Officers say he was displaying obvious signs of intoxication and was transported to the station for further breath testing.

The 22-year-old faces charges for impaired operation, dangerous operation and failure to remain at the scene of an accident. His licence has been suspended and vehicle impounded.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
