UPDATE: Fatal marine incident claims two, including Bluewater firefighter

Huron County OPP confirmed two people died in relation marine rescue in Bayfield yesterday, including one Bluewater volunteer firefighter.

Emergency services responded to a call of a pleasure craft operator in distress around 2:20 p.m. on June 10.

Police say when they arrived Huron County EMS and Bluewater Fire Services personnel were performing life saving measures on an individual who had been brought to shore. However, a 32-year-old Bluewater resident was pronounced dead at the scene.

While assisting in the emergency, a 46-year-old volunteer from Bluewater also experienced a medical emergency. They were transported to Goderich Hospital and later pronounced dead.

OPP say “the causes of these two tragic deaths have yet to be determined, however post-mortem examinations have been scheduled for both.”

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
