Late Bayfield firefighter to be honoured this Friday

The Bluewater community will gather this Friday to celebrate the life of a volunteer firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty.

John Vanderhaar passed away unexpectedly last Saturday at the age of 46.

There will be a private family funeral, but the public is invited to the Bayfield Community Centre on June 23 from 1 to 5 p.m. for a Celebration of Life.

Words of remembrance will be shared at 3 p.m.

Donations to can be made to the Bayfield Fire Department, The Heart & Stroke Foundation, Children’s Health Foundation at London Health Sciences Centre , Bayfield Community Centre or a charity of your choice.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
