Wingham ED to experience closures yet again

The emergency department in Wingham will again experience temporary closures through a summer weekend.

The Listowel Wingham Hospital Alliance confirms that the Wingham Hospital will close its emergency department at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 24 until 7 a.m. on Sunday, June 25. The ED will again close at 5 p.m. on the 25, and re-open Monday, June 26 at 7 a.m.

The LWHA notes that the closure is a last resort and is due to ongoing staffing issues.

Ambulances will remain available to the community and will be re-routed to surrounding hospitals in emergency situations.

The following is a list of closest hospitals (they may also be experiencing temporary closures due to staffing shortages so it is advised that you confirm that they are open before heading there):

-Clinton (Reduced Hours – Open 8am to 6 pm)

-Goderich

-Palmerston

-Seaforth

-Kincardine

-Walkerton

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
