SIU probing death of man found in Goderich motel room

The province’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate the death of a 48-year-old man found in a motel in Goderich on Thursday.

According to the Special Investigations Unit, members of the Huron County OPP were called around 1:15 p.m. to conduct a welfare check.

At around 2:30 p.m., police arrived at a motel on Bayfield Road and located the vehicle belonging to the man in the parking lot.

Officers subsequently found the man inside one of the rooms deceased.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case. A post-mortem examination took place in London on Friday.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates incidents involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
