Man accused of wielding knife during altercation inside Listowel business

A Listowel man faces charges after he allegedly drew a weapon during a hostile incident at a local business last Friday.

According to North Huron Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), at around 5 p.m. on June 30, officers responded to a disturbance at a business on Main Street West in Listowel.

Police were told a customer was asked to leave the store when he became aggressive. The accused allegedly made threats and was assaultive towards others. When officers arrived, police said the man was wielding an edged weapon.

The man reportedly resisted the officers’ attempts at taking him into custody. He was taken into custody a short time later.

No one was injured during the incident.

As a result, a 21-year-old Listowel man is charged with uttering threats of death or bodily harm, two counts of assault, assault with intent to resist arrest, one count each of assaulting a peace officer with, and while carrying a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and two counts of mischief.

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
