Local unemployment rate dips further in June

The local unemployment rate in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region dipped in June.

According to the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, unemployment dipped 1.4 percent in June to land at 4.5 percent. Provincially, unemployment went up slightly by just 0.1 percent, to land at 5.5 percent, with both rates unadjusted for seasonality.

The region’s labour force size decreased from 167,000 people in May to 164,600 people in June 2023. The size of the population not participating in the labour force also increased by 2,800, bringing the participation rate down by 0.9 percent to just over 60 percent.

Additionally, 400 full-time losses and 400 part-time gains were reported for June in the region.

Current job postings for the Bruce, Grey, Huron, Perth region have increased overtime since the pandemic and can be found at www.connect2JOBS.ca. There are currently over 2,500 postings.
