Police share Canada Day weekend numbers

Many local police forces were busy during the Canada Day long weekend traffic safety week, which ran June 24 through July 3.

Grey Bruce OPP laid a total of 272 traffic related charges including 135 for speeding, 10 for stunt driving charges, 31 seatbelt charges and 2 for impaired driving. During the campaign, Grey Bruce OPP investigated 13 motor vehicle collisions.

Owen Sound Police Service responded to 198 incidents over the long weekend. Officers executed 13 arrest warrants on individuals during this period and charged 13 drivers under the Highway Traffic Act, with the majority of them being speed related.

Huron County OPP officers were very busy, laying 218 charges, with 137 of those being for speeding.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
