High levels of air pollution are possible this afternoon.

An AIR QUALITY WARNING is in place due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality. Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values in the afternoon.

When air pollution levels are high, everyone should limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

Many local police forces were busy during the Canada Day long weekend traffic safety week, which ran June 24 through July 3.Grey Bruce OPP laid a total of 272 traffic related charges including 135 for speeding, 10 for stunt driving charges, 31 seatbelt charges and 2 for impaired driving. During the campaign, Grey Bruce OPP investigated 13 motor vehicle collisions.Owen Sound Police Service responded to 198 incidents over the long weekend. Officers executed 13 arrest warrants on individuals during this period and charged 13 drivers under the Highway Traffic Act, with the majority of them being speed related.Huron County OPP officers were very busy, laying 218 charges, with 137 of those being for speeding.
