UPDATE: Fire near Clifford destroys barn, claims cattle

A barn collapsed and five cattle were killed in a fire that broke out near Clifford last night.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, firefighters from Minto, Wellington North, and West Grey were called to reports of a structure fire around Ayton Road.

Approximately 50 firefighters attended the blaze at an old bank barn containing straw, equipment and a few cattle.

No injuries to the owner or firefighters were reported. The barn was destroyed as a result and unfortunately, five cattle perished. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental in nature with an estimated damage of $750,000.
